The love language of gifting: how to show your love through the perfect gift

If you’ve heard of the five love languages, you know that one of them is receiving and giving gifts. Sometimes this love language is misunderstood while the thought behind it is really beautiful. Such a shame! We’ll explain how this love language works, and what it means when your partner or someone else close to you has this language of love.

Have you ever received a gift that was so meaningful you still remember it to this day? You might already know why some people love receiving gifts if you did. There is almost nothing as meaningful as the perfect gift, especially sought out for you.

There is a misconception that gift-givers are materialistic and selfish, and demand expensive gifts from their loved ones. But nothing is less true! Because they also love to GIVE gifts to their loved ones, not only receive. It’s also not really about the gifts. The gifts are more like the medium, the thought behind it is often thinking about someone and their needs, and giving and receiving tokens of appreciation.

Sometimes a gift can support someone, financially and emotionally. Gift-givers love to use their financial resources to support their loved ones. And they love it when their generosity is reciprocated.

So even if their love is expressed often by spending money, the thought behind it isn’t materialistic at all. Gift-givers are not selfish or materialistic at all. They simply want to show their love and affection by giving physical mementoes of it, and also love receiving it back.
