We do not make every piece by ourselves. We design our cheese knives in our studio, work with trusted makers to produce them, then engrave each one by hand here on the Sunshine Coast.

How sharp is it?
It is a cheese knife, not a chef's knife. Designed for the cheese course: slicing soft cheeses cleanly, lifting hard ones, spreading the brie. Not for chopping vegetables or carving a roast. The blade is stainless steel, set into the handle in our studio, and weighted to feel right in the hand.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
No. The resin handle, the acacia base, and the long-term sharpness of the blade all do better with a hand wash. A quick rinse and a wipe down with a tea towel is all it needs. Dry it before storing.
Which knife pairs with which board?
The handle colour matches our board colourways. Buy a Seascape knife to sit alongside a Seascape board. The Lilac knife will pop against a Lilac board, or sit beautifully against the Burnt Ivory if you want contrast. They all work with all boards. There is no wrong pairing.
How do I care for the handle?
Hand wash, dry immediately, store in a drawer or knife block. Once every few months, rub a drop of food-grade oil into the acacia portion of the handle to keep the timber fed. The resin needs nothing.
Can I engrave it?
Yes. We can laser engrave a short word, initials, or a date onto the timber portion of the handle. Complimentary, done in-house, no added dispatch time. Many self-bought knives go unengraved for a clean line, but the choice is yours.
What if it does not feel right?
We accept returns within 30 days, including engraved pieces. Email hello@thefifthdesign.com.au and we will arrange a return label.
