If you’re like us, all about food and making food, the kitchen has to be one of your favourite places in your house. We know it is for us! Unfortunately kitchens also tend to get a bit messy because we have to store so much stuff in there. If you’re looking for inspiration to give your kitchen a mini make-over (that’s also not going to break the bank!), keep reading for our favourite tips!
GIVE THE WALLS A FRESH LAYER OF A PRETTY COLOUR
What’s more depressing than drab grey walls, or a messy layer of paint on them? The state of your walls are a very important factor for the entire atmosphere of your kitchen. And we know that white is the standard for most walls, but think different! Why not yellow, blue, green or purple? It’s your kitchen, and you can be as creative as you want to be.
PLANTS, PLANTS AND MORE PLANTS
Plants are (in our opinion of course) the best accessoire you can have in the house! Green brings liveliness in any room, no matter the state. Plus houseplants are great to to up the oxygen level, so you can breathe a little easier. Our favourite plants in the kitchen are:
- Sanseveria
The Sanseveria doesn’t only look great, it’s also one of those plants you just can’t kill! These beautiful plants survive any plant-killer, and doesn’t need almost anything. You can let them go without water, and with little or lots of light.
- Any type of hanging plant!
Really on trend, and looking adorable: hanging plants! Hanging plants really give any room a cheerful feel, and most of them are also ‘’easy plants.’’ Our favourite hanging plants are the Scindapsus Pictus and the Pothos, since they’re not only easy to take care of, but also amazing if you’re into propagating plants. They also look adorable in macrame hangers!
- Spider plant
An old-fashion that is easy to take care of and looks great everywhere!
ACCESSORISE!
An empty space doesn’t really look cosy, agree right? A great way to spice up the space is to add some accessories in the form of plants, pictures, or perhaps a white or chalk board that you can write on. Or what about some statement pieces. Our stunning large grazer makes the perfect statement piece here

LACKING SPACE? USE THE WALLS!
I think most of us would like a bigger kitchen, since it’s just one of those rooms that seems to fill up in no-time. If you’re lacking space (and the walls are empty) it’s definitely worthwhile to use the walls. Hang up beams to put stuff on, pictureframes or other systems you can use as extra storespace.
HANG UP SOME PICTURES FOR A PERSONAL TOUCH
I think one of my favourite things about coming in someone else’s house for the first time is seeing a reflection of that person’s personality and life. And what’s more telling about someones life than the pictures they hang up in their house? Whether that’s pictures with friends and family or holiday pictures, there is no good or bad style-wise. As long as it fits you.
HAVE A FEW EYE-CATCHERS
But if you’re looking to make a wow impression style-wise, that also doesn’t have to be difficult. Very simply: you need some eye-catchers! Something your guests will see right away, and are conversation starters. How about some cute bowls or beautiful chopping boards? Not only are they mega stylish, they’re no waste of space since they’re also practical!
FOR THE PASSIONATE CHEFS OUT THERE: HERBS!
Herbs are a must-have for any passionate chef, so if you are these are probably already in your kitchen. You can dress it up by making or buying a spice cabinet (also practical!) or by growing your own herbs in terracotta pots.
We hope these tips will help you to revamp your kitchen! Giving your kitchen a new feel doesn’t have to cost a whole lot of money, and we hope that after reading this blog you have all the inspiration you need to give your kitchen a re-do. If you’re planning on using our tips we’d love to see the result! Tag us on your kitchen re-do picture on Instagram using our handle: @the.fifthdesign. We can’t wait to see you’re make-over pictures!
